In the 1700 & 1800's there were many instances of raids
both by the Indians and the white settlers. Some of the stories associated with
the several branches of my family that settled in Virginia and Kentucky can be
read below.
Jenny Sellards Wiley ~ Captured in 1789 ~
Jenny Wiley was my 4th great grandaunt. Jenny Wiley State Park in Prestonsburg,
Kentucky is named after her.
Frances Alley Nappier ~ Captured in 1777 ~
Frances was my 5th great grandaunt. She is the sister of Mary "Polly" Alley
listed below.
Mary "Polly" Alley ~ Captured in 1777 ~ Mary was my 5th great
grandaunt. She is the sister of Frances Alley Nappier.
James Ward III, James IV, John Ward, & William Ward
- The Wards are father and sons. John, son of James Ward, III
was captured by Shawnee Indians at the age of 3 & lived with them the rest of
his life. He fought against his father & brothers in the
Battle of Point Pleasant.
