Jenny was my 4th great aunt. She was born circa 1760 and died of paralysis in 1831. This courageous woman was one of many frontier women captured by Indians. There are many stories of the capture and captivity of Jenny Wiley. See my Miscellaneous But Interesting page for additional information on Jenny.
The State of Kentucky has chosen to recognize this courageous woman by dedicating a state park in her honor. Jenny Wiley State Park is located near Prestonsburg, Floyd County Kentucky. Rather than try to retell Jenny’s story here, there is an excellent write up on the RootsWeb website.
The story of Jenny and several others is told in an unpublished manuscript, Indian Atrocities Along The Clinch, Powell and Holston Rivers of Southwest Virginia 1773-1794 by Emory L. Hamilton.
